Connect Google Business Profile

You sign in with the Google account that manages your Business Profile and allow ContentPilot to manage it. After that, approved posts can go to your profile on the times you pick.

Before you start

  • You need a Google Business Profile (once called Google My Business) that you manage.
  • Sign in with the Google account that is an owner or manager of that profile.

Steps

  1. In ContentPilot, open the business (or client) and press Connections.
  2. Next to Google Business, press Connect. Google's sign-in opens.
  3. Choose the Google account that manages your profile.
  4. Google shows what ContentPilot is asking for: to see, edit, create and delete your Google business listings. Press Continue or Allow.
  5. Back in ContentPilot, the card shows Connected.

The connection has to finish within ten minutes, in the browser you started in.

What the permission is for

ContentPilot asks Google for one permission, business.manage, which is Google's permission for managing a Business Profile. ContentPilot uses it to:

  • find your profile's location and the website it lists,
  • publish the updates you approve and schedule, with one photo and a Learn more button linking to that website,
  • read your profile's totals for views, website clicks, calls and direction requests after a post, for your results.

It does not change your business details, opening hours or reviews. Google words the permission broadly because it covers everything a profile manager can do, which is why the screen mentions editing and deleting.

What gets posted

A standard update: your text, one photo if the post has an image, and a Learn more button when your profile lists a website. ContentPilot does not make event or offer posts.

To disconnect, press Disconnect on the Connections page. You can also remove ContentPilot from the third-party access list in your Google account.

FAQ

Common problems

It says Google connected, but no Business Profile location was found.

You signed in with a Google account that does not manage a Business Profile. Press Connect again and choose the Google account that manages your profile.

Which location does ContentPilot post to?

The first location on the first Business Profile account the Google sign-in can see. If you manage several locations, email us before connecting so we can check it picks the right one.

Do I have to reconnect every so often?

Usually not. ContentPilot keeps a long-lived permission from Google and renews access by itself. If you remove ContentPilot from your Google account, or Google asks you to sign in again, press Reconnect on the Connections page.

Can my client connect their own profile?

Yes. Press Send link via email on the Connections page. Your client signs in with their own Google account on Google’s screens.
